repetitive behaviors

Repetitive behaviors can also be called stemming or perseverative responses and are an autistic person's way to either escape into their own little world or it is their way to deal with stress.  They do it because it feels good to them.  It may include toe walking, finger flicking, rocking, etc.

My son has a tendency to jump up and down excitedly when someone falls or is hurt.  I think this is a stemming response to not knowing what to do emotionally and physically.
