ABA
therapy uses repetive and step-by-step methods to change
behavior. Because of this main focus, you may ask,
"autism why use aba?"
First, many moms have described how they
started noticing a change in behavior in their children who
later on were diagnosed with autism. The key is
"behavior." When this occurs, you can use ABA
Therapy to refocus and redirect the child's behavior.
How can ABA apply to teaching an
autistic individual?
Consider the repetitive methods of ABA
such as using flashcards. This method not only works with
children who don't have autism, it also works with autistic
children.
Consider the step-by-step methods of ABA
such teaching a child colors by presenting those colors in one,
non-distractive, easy-steps format. That is, teach the
colors red, white, and blue by displaying them in one shape such
as a rectangle. Don't present the colors in different
shapes--only one shape. Repeat, teach again, step-by-step,
and soon the colors will be recognized, integrated, learned, and
applied.
Many moms have hailed the use of ABA
therapy for their children and they have seen the results for
themselves, and below are some moms who have created materials
using ABA methods!
