General Information

If you have a child who has been diagnosed as autistic and who is beginning their teen years, you may see a change in their behavior regarding irritability or anger issues. In some cases, hitting another person may be something to be on the lookout for during these early adult years.

As a parent, be vigilant in disciplining your child. For example, take away something they truly love to do, to make them pay attention that any hitting is not acceptable. Maybe they love a certain video game. Or maybe there is a movie they have wanted to go see. Or in the summer, they love to swim. Depending on your observation of your child, you may find it fitting to take such privileges away until their behavior improves.

In addition to discipline, one drug that is prescribed is Risperidone. This medication can be taken as a tablet or a liquid. See more about how this medicine should be used as well as warnings about this drug at the National Library of Medicine site.
